Between the book and the real life we can make some connections, I just want to give you some examples. The Revolution of the Animals represents the October Revolution and the February Revolution in Russia 1917. The Flag of Animalism is green and green is the complementary color of red; the Horn and Hoof are based on hammer and sickle so we have the Flag of the Soviet Union. The windmill the animals try to build is a synonym for the exertion to industrialize Russia. And we can interpret the attack of it by Mr. Frederick as the violation of the non-aggression pact between Germany and the Soviet Union. And also as Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Of course the most of the Characters are based on real Persons, just like Napoleon, he is a allegory of Joseph Stalin, the change of the laws signify the change from communism to Stalinism at the end no one remembers the old days. That Pinkeye (a young pig) has to try all the food before Napoleon eats it is a parallel to Stalin’s delusion of seeing conspiracies against him everywhere. And Boxer is the symbol for the working class, he gets exploit by the pigs just like the working class by Stalin. Probably he stands for “Alexei Grigorjewitsch Stachanow” who was a miner in the Soviet Union which had mined a record 102 tonnes of coal in 5 hours and 45 minutes [14 times more than standard] on 31 of August 1935 and on 19th September, mined 227 tonnes of coal in a single shift, so he was a role model for the working class. My next point is when Napoleon educated the 30 young pigs on his own, for me this symbolizes that he is having something like a Hitler Youth, a totally loyal Generation which doesn’t know anything else than what Napoleon/Hitler had told them.
We can find tons of other Connections, because this book is a Satire to the Russian Revolution, but I think this is enough for now.
