Animal Farm LOG 10: Chapter X
A few years passed, the farm has 2 windmills and there are just a few of the origin animals left on the farm. One day all the pigs walked on their 2 back legs carrying a whip and the Commandments have been erased and replaced by a single slogan, ‘All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others’. Another night the leading pigs and humans are playing cards together and partying in the house. But both Napoleon and Pilkington were cheating and played the same ace at the same time. At this point the book ends.
When the animals start to walk on their 2 legs they behave totally human, this was strictly against the old rules. And I think we can interpret the aces as the beginning of the cold war.
Animal Farm LOG 9: Chapter IX
Napoleon proclaims that Animal Farm is a Republic and he will be its President and Moses came back. Boxer who had already passed the age of retirement collapsed a needed medical help, but instead of taking him to the vet Napoleon is selling him to ‘Alfred Simmonds, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler’, the pigs say that this isn’t true and that the vet just used this car. At the same time about 30young pigs were born, which were educated by Napoleon himself.
We can see the connection between the young pigs and the Hitler Youth and also that the pigs are living in luxury while the rest of the animals is starving. I think Moses is symbolising the Church and is just suffered because he is reassuring the animals.
Animal Farm LOG 8: Chapter VIII
Napoleon sold the timber to Frederick, but the money was forged. There was also ‘the Battle of the Windmill’ in which 15 human attacked the animals, destroyed the windmill and killed many animals, they just didn’t win because of the dogs. The pigs want to celebrate their ‘victory’ but no one really thought there was a victory. After starting to brew whiskey another rule was changed – ‘No animal shall drink alcohol to excess’.
Napoleon wants to make ‘the Battle of the Windmill’ to a victory but in fact it was a total failure, we can see the connection between this event and the fight in Stalingrad.
Animal Farm LOG 7: Chapter VII
Because of trading there is less food for the animals, but humans were misled and were shown a full granary. But the granary just was filled with sand and one layer of food so it seemed to be full. We also can see the first executions in this book over 3 hens started a rebel because they didn’t want to lay more eggs and 4 pigs which suggested that Sunday meetings should go on. There also was another change in the Commandments – ‘No animal shall kill any other animal without cause’.
Napoleon is saying that everything bad is happening because of Snowball, this technique was already used by Hitler who said that all bad things happen because of the Jews. Maybe there is another connection between Nazi Germany and Napoleon, it seems like he is breeding his own master race.
Animal Farm LOG 6: Chapter VI
It comes up that Napoleon wanted to build the windmill the whole time, so the animals started to build the windmill but had big problems to form the stones because none of them was able to use a pick or crowbar. The pigs also started to live in the old house of Mr. Jones and to sleep in beds, Clover thought this would be against the 4th Commandment, but now there was written ‘No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets’. One morning after a storm the windmill was destroyed and Napoleon blamed Snowball.
All the pigs seem to be more human and we can see again similarities between Animal Farm and Russia, at first there is the 2-year plan for the windmill and Stalin’s 5-year Plans, second Napoleon tries to keep the comrades calm by occupying them with a lot of work so they can’t think about what is going on, Stalin used the same technique. The Pigs also start to trade with the humans what is strictly against the basic ideology of Animal Farm.
Animal Farm LOG 5: Chapter V
In this Chapter Snowball gets driven out of the farm by a military putsch of Napoleon, who uses 3 Dog which he has reared from puppies.
Snowball is a good tactician, we can see this when we look at the success he had at his last battle, but hadn’t a chance against Napoleon who now also seems to be a great tactician. He has no chance because he had no idea that Napoleon planned something like that and because of the violence Napoleon used. We can see parallelism between Stalin’s regime and Napoleon’s, all Comrades which can’t be manipulated get banished.
Animal Farm LOG 4: Chapter IV
There are more and more arguments between Napoleon and Snowball, mainly because Snowball wants to spray their idea over neighbour farms while Napoleon wants to let everybody work harder.
A big event of the story is taking place in this Chapter: ‘The Battle of the Cowshed’ in which the human beings try to take control over the animal farm but fail. Snowball, who led the defence, Boxer and a dead sheep were receive a Military Decoration, “Animal Hero – 2nd Class”.
Snowball now is a War hero for the animals and gets more popular than Napoleon likes. The Humans now also work together, but I think that Frederick and Pilkington (the two neighbour farmers) just helped Mr. Jones because of the payment, they don’t do it because they are good friend or something like that.
Animal Farm LOG 3: Chapter III
All animal, except the pigs who supervised the work, worked very hard during the whole summer, the best worker was Boxer. They were rewarded with a lot of food, more than they ever had under Mr. Jones which just had stolen the products of the animals work without working.
But when the pigs start to use the milk on their own without sharing it with the other animals this is kind of the same. They don’t work physically but get the best food and this is also a violation of the 7. law which says that all animals are equal. I think in the future story the pigs will get themselves more and more rights and work less, they maybe can do this for a while with the other animals because they are smarter (learn faster how to write and read) but I think at the end we will see another revolution against the pigs.
Animal Farm LOG 2: Chapter II
In this Chapter the Revolution is happening, the animals were unfed and Mr. Jones also didn’t milk the cows and when he returned drunken from his bar and fell asleep imminently, the animals couldn’t bear that anymore and without making a plan or talking to each other they all participated at the revolution. ANIMAL FARM was born.
Napoleon and Snowball seized power and defined the following 7 rules:
THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
7. All animals are equal.
There is also a mystery happening, at the first morning it is wondered what will happen with the milk but Napoleon assured that someone will take of it, later the milk is missing. I think the animals will share the milk with any other animals and will watch out that no animal gets more than it deserves.
